Are We There Yet?

OK, things feel like they've come to a standstill, and over the summer we did get a little tired of asking. "Relax kids, we'll get there eventually...". We have no appointment, but we do have a destination. A very important one! At least we "know" where we're going (generally, anyway). Thanks to family & friends for being respectful of this, even though we know you're waiting & anxious too. As much info as we'd like to give, we just don't have a lot to work with!

I thought it was about time to give an update. Even though it's almost like narrating drying paint to others, things actually do move along, if not as fast and obvious as time itself, in the ethereal world of adoption. Dossiers through July 22, 2005 have finally been processed for referrals, and the CCAA has reviewed all the applications they received up to December 2005. We're Sept 7, so we are definitely at the forefront of being "reviewed"! To paraphrase George Constanza, "...The wheels are in motion; things are happening, baby!"

Meanwhile, we are definitely staying occupied and even having a nice time getting to know other adoptive families, and trying to soak up as much Chinese/Chinese-American cultural knowledge as possible. We currently welcome a "new year" at least three times a year (we just celebrated our first Chinese Lunar New Year Feb 2006, and right now we are heralding the fall season with Rosh Hashanah), and right after Yom Kippur the Chinese Autumn Moon Festival will commence. I love holidays and new beginnings, not to mention the associated food (mmmm... moon cakes!), so the more the merrier, I say! Tomorrow, we're going to watch the Dragon Boat Races in San Francisco (an ancient tradition in China, & last year was the first time it was held in SF!).

So, we wish you all a happy new year, whenever and however you celebrate. For every one of them, this will be especially sweet for us. After all, we're embarking on a lifelong journey. And it's said that more important than the destination is the journey.
